How to find your friends at a music festival!

Have you ever strayed away from your friends to go grab a beer,  run to the bathroom, or go see another artist at a different stage thinking you'll be able to meet up with them later? In reality you find yourself saying, "OMG! Where the f*ck are my friends?!" If you've been to a huge festival you understand the struggle to find your friends once you've strayed away from the pack.

Whether there's a lack of cellphone service or your phone is on 2%. Here are a few tips on how to find your friends:

1)  Be super descriptive-

Include landmarks and specific things that stand out when texting your friends where you are. Simply saying, "we are left side of stage" doesn't cut it. When there are thousands of people, they won't be able to find you. It's like finding a needle in a haystack.  This is way more helpful: "At Tripolee stage! Standing left side of stage next to the 3rd light pole from center, diagonal from beer tent (next to the dumplings food truck)"

2) Include a time stamp to your texts

Because cell service is spotty, you don't actually know when your text will make it through to your friends. Imagine telling your friends you are the right side of stage near the tall tree, but the text doesn't go through until 30 minutes later and you already left. Frustrating, right? At least when they receive your text, they know when you wrote it and if it's even feasible to try to meet you.

3) Send a photo of your view

Be sure to include a photo of your view of the stage. This will help them get an understanding of where exactly you are, using it as a guide.  Put on your Dora the Explorer thinking cap...

4) Use a totem-

Totems are the perfect way to help your crew stay together. Make yours unique to literally stand out in a crowd. Or if you don't have one, use an inflatable or find another person's totem and text your friends what it is so that they can find you! For example: I told my friends that I was standing next to a giant Gary Busey head and my friends found me! Silly as it sounds. It really worked!

Below are some of my fave totems

I had absolutely no service at Electric Forest, but I posted on IG to look for this totem in advance. It worked!

5) Buddy System

Always bring a friend. If you need to run to the restroom or go refill your water, ask a friend to come with you.  It's also safer to have a buddy at all times.  If you both are lost together...two heads are always better than one when it comes to finding your squad.

6) Make new friends

If worst comes to worst, make new friends! Some of my best friends were made at festivals. I've met so many amazing people because I was lost or because they were lost.  We all thrive on good vibes, so don't be afraid to chat it up with people near you.  The sense of community found at festivals is one of the many reasons I continue to go.
